Welcome. This site is about how a Congresswoman from NYC has been misleading well intentioned elected officials to sign onto her bill, HR 6594 (formerly 3543), the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, also known as the Zadroga Act, and strictly have her way with no room for correcting her mistakes in this legislation.
What is HR 6594? The 9/11 Health & Compensation Act provides for medical care for World Trade Center Responders that became ill from the exposure to toxic and burning substances and bio hazards.
9/11 World Trade Center (WTC) responders in NYC and around the USA are ill from 9/11 toxic exposures. Maloney's bill sets up care both in the NYC Metropolitan area and nationally, a great thing we believe. With one exception. If you were a responder from the NYC Fire Department and are either still working or retired, you can only get medical care at the NYC Fire Department when all other responders can get their care at ANY participating WTC center of excellence. They have freedom in their health care choices.
In this video, Maloney was testifying before the NYC Council and told them that everyone has the freedom in healthcare to go where they want. THIS IS NOT TRUE! In fact her bill specifically prevents FDNY responders from having freedom in their choice of healthcare for WTC illnesses. She forces them back to their former employer, the FDNY, who did not adequately protect them on 9/11 or the months thereafter with appropriate respiratory protection. She prevents these heroes from choosing the center of excellence to get that care, and only allows the FDNY (their employer / former employer for retirees) to provide that care. A true conflict of interest, it allows no freedom of healthcare choice, and is clearly un-American.
In this video, Councilman Gerson acknowledges that testimony presented to him from responders was in complete opposition to that of Congresswoman Maloney. She was sitting next to Congressman Nadler, and he did not correct her either.
I guess they did not read their own bill. But we are here to show you and the rest of Congress that this bill needs to be fixed NOW. We ask for your help in calling your Federal Congressman/woman and advise them of this problem and ask them not to sign this bill unless it is amended. Please, FDNY responders NEED YOU!
